Welcome to my website! Within this site you will find the photographic works I’m most proud of within the different genres of photography I find myself working in.

About me

My name is Ben Holmes, I’m a 20 year old Cumbria-based photographer and have been working actively with it for the last 4 years. My interest stems from family connections, with my grandmother photographing sports for newspapers at both local and national level. Through this I’ve had a strong link to photography for a large part of my life and learnt how to take photographs to the best of my ability.

My main body of practice is currently in Sports Photojournalism covering Carlisle United football games for the News & Star newspaper who publish my photographs online and in Newspaper form. I’ve also had images feature on Carlisle United’s own website and media pages as well as the Southern Daily Echo using my work.

Currently I’m a third year student at the University of Cumbria, studying a photography degree at Bachelors level and hoping to go on to complete a masters degree in multimedia journalism once I graduate. Through my course I have developed skills within different genres of photography not just the photojournalism that I specialise in. With genres such as portraiture, landscape, wildlife, events and more being delved into.

Equipment wise, my main weapon of choice so to speak is the Canon 1D mkIV with a Canon 70-200mm f2.8 II Telephoto lens backed up with other lenses up to 200mm as well as equipment borrowed from my University such as Nikon D610s with 400mm lenses meaning I can switch between different makes and models wherever necessary. I have also delved into drone photography and video with my Mavic Mini as well as 35mm film photography using an old Canon EOS 500N using various film stocks.
